Few more Movies to look Forward to in 2013

This can be seen as a part-2 to the most anticipated movies of 2013 list compiled by Sundeep.

Stoker

People moan when their favorite auteurs succumb to the wiles of Hollywood. I don’t, I relish it. Where else could Park Chan Wook have cast Mia Wasikowska in a film of his?

Frances Ha

Indie darling Greta Gerwig goes to Paris and goofs about. What more could you ask! You could ask for a cameo by Adam Driver, and you still wouldn’t be disappointed 😉

The Place Beyond the Pines

Ryan Gosling is a thief thieving to provide a future for his son, Bradley Cooper is a conflicted cop who may team with Ryan Gosling towards the end. The placement of those pines in the title design did it for me though.

This Is The End

Seth Rogen writes and directs. He calls over all his buddies to aid the process. (That song which plays at the end is a favorite already.)

No more trailers for you. I am not going to restrict myself to strictly awaiting movies with trailers like Sundeep did.

Terrence Malick’s features

He’s got a slew of films lined up, all ready for release! The casts are so overlapping that it becomes difficult to distinguish where one movie ends and where the other begins.

a) To the wonder| Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams| This one’s the odd one out of the trio in that it’s got a trailer, a release date, and a cast pretty much unto itself. I am not linking the trailer here as a symbolic disapproval of Olga Kurylenko.

b) Knight of cups ! Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Imogen Poots,  Antonio Banderas, Teresa Palmer, Shea Wigham and  on and on!

c) Untitled film ! Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Berenice Marlohe, Benicio Del Toro ! I dare you to find me a better ensemble in 2013. Those 3 men are enough to strike down any ensemble you may dig up.

Steven Soderbergh’s parting gifts

He says he’s done with making movies. Since that’s a pill hard to swallow, let’s just infer he’s taking a break from making movies. Anyway, he’s got two movies coming out this year. Side Effects starring Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta Jones; and a TV movie called Behind the Candelabra starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas.

Speaking of Matt Damon, he’s got an interesting year too. Along with the gay turn with Michael Douglas, he stars in Neil Blomkamp’s follow up to the highly acclaimed District 9, Elysium. If the buzz is to be believed, this one will kick the gonads of both After Earth and Oblivion.

Later, he’s teaming up with old pal George Clooney and making a world war 2 drama titled Monuments Men, which also stars Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, and John Goodman.  John Goodman, incidentally, has turned into a lucky charm following the Oscar triumphs of The Artist and Argo. More coincidentally, he plays the role of a Hollywood executive in both. What are the chances of a three-peat? Is he donning the role of a Hollywood executive in any of this year’s releases? Inside Llewyn Davis, the 2013 offering of the Coens filled with bad hairdos, seems to come the closest in pairing him with a similar role.

Damon’s not done yet, btw. He’s got a 4th release this year in the form of The Zero Theorem where he plays the antagonist to Christoph Waltz’s protagonist?

Michael Fassbender

After a quiet 2012, he’s lined up quite a solid year. In addition to that Terrence Malick film, he’s doing two more, and both of them will see him alongside Brad Pitt! Twelve years a Slave, directed by the man who gave us the supreme Shame, and Ridley Scott’s The Counselor.

Jessica Chastain

The mere act of typing her name brings warm feelings swelling to the surface. She has soul-crushingly only two movies coming out this year and even they are nothing more than a single movie split into two. The Disappearce of Eleanor Rigby: His, and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers.

Jack Ryan, not to be confused with Jack Reacher, sees Chris Pine playing a dashing CIA agent dashing about over-time to sabotage Russian designs. Keira Knightley co-stars.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For- loved Sin City, couldn’t come to terms with the disaster that was The Spirit. Where this one lands is anyone’s guess.

Evil Dead– Early reviews suggest it is this year’s Cabin in the Woods. High praise that. Theatrical release please!

Buzz of festivals: Before Midnight, A.C.O.D, Don Jon, Ain’t them Bodies Saints, The Spectacular Now.
