I almost skipped it last Friday; I was about to leave when it hit me; maybe I could do with some endorphins for the day; I mean who doesn’t right? Coach Makana had something special planned for us. Fridays are generally different, difficult, but this day was more so. He had ‘Monster Mash’ waiting to devour us.
Talking about monsters, do you have a favorite song for when you workout? The song which pumps you up, lets you forget the pain and gives you that millisecond boost? Well I do. And its this one (Feel like a monster)
Right before we get started, Coach tells us that the average time people who work with him take to complete this particular drill is 36 minutes. He challenged us to beat that. I took the longest time to finish in the group. Towards the end I thought I would miss the time; I looked at my watch and I didn’t think there was enough left before I’d be done. But the rest of the group started cheering including the Coach, and I think it helped me push harder. I finish ‘Monster Mash’ when the clock showed 35 minutes. Sled pushes were the toughest, and not just because those were the last ones on the list. We did have some help in the form of rain though. We work outdoors, and the rain made the turf wet; less fiction, so easier to push :).
I was exhausted by the end. I collapsed on the ground, and was trying to catch my breath. But I was also strangely happy. My shoulders were tight; I could feel it. So I get up and then reach for a bar near me…
